Terms of Service

Effective date: May 18, 2026 · Last updated: May 18, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the sumsum mobile application (the "App") operated by Sumsum Labs, Inc. ("we," "us," or "our"). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to these Terms.

The App

sumsum is a skincare ingredient analysis tool that helps you understand what's in your personal care products. The App scans product ingredient lists, provides safety scores, flags ingredients of concern, and offers educational information about skincare ingredients and routines.

Not medical advice

The App is for educational and informational purposes only. The App does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Safety scores, ingredient flags, hazard warnings, conflict alerts, and all other analysis are based on publicly available ingredient safety data and should not be used as a substitute for professional medical advice.

Always consult a dermatologist, physician, or qualified healthcare provider before making decisions about your skincare, especially if you have allergies, sensitivities, skin conditions, or are pregnant or nursing.

We are not responsible for any adverse reactions, skin irritation, allergic responses, or health effects resulting from your use of any product, whether or not that product was analyzed by the App.

AI-generated content

The App uses artificial intelligence (Anthropic's Claude API) to analyze ingredient images and provide ingredient identification. While we take steps to ensure accuracy, AI-generated content may contain errors, including misidentified ingredients, incomplete ingredient lists, or incorrect safety assessments.

We provide a deterministic ingredient flagging system based on established safety databases to minimize AI-related inaccuracies. You should always verify ingredient information against the physical product label.

Accuracy and limitations

We strive for accuracy but cannot guarantee that all information is complete, current, or error-free. Safety scores are calculated based on known ingredient hazard data from sources including the EU CosIng database, SCCS opinions, IARC classifications, and EWG data. Different regulatory bodies may classify the same ingredient differently.

User-submitted content

When you edit a product's ingredient list or submit corrections, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use that submission to improve our product database for all users. You represent that any information you submit is accurate to the best of your knowledge.

You agree not to submit intentionally false, misleading, or harmful information.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Intellectual property

The App, including its design, code, brand assets, ingredient database, safety algorithms, and content, is owned by Sumsum Labs, Inc. and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. "sumsum," the sumsum logo, and all related marks are trademarks of Sumsum Labs, Inc.

Disclaimer of warranties

The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We disclaim all warranties, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Sumsum Labs, Inc. shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the App. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, or fifty dollars ($50), whichever is greater.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict of law principles.

Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms at any time. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
